Create Your “Bucket List”

This little piece of advice will radically alter your life.

I know, because it changed mine.

YouTube Preview Image

Several years ago I was raced to the ER at 3:00am in excruciating pain in my lower back. I was in so much pain that I thought I was dying.

While awaiting the Doctor to come in, I decided to do something that drastically altered the course of my life.

I found a napkin and a pen and wrote down a list of life goals. Now, I should mention that these goals weren’t small by any means. They are massive goals. Things I wasn’t even sure I could ever do!

I started writing and didn’t stop until I made a list of about 32 things I knew I HAD to achieve in my life time.

It was then that I made a promise. I said, “God, if you let me live through this, I promise to complete everything on I wrote on this list.

Luckily, I survived that day and since have completed a number of goals on that list.

I have thrown the first pitch at a Chicago Whitesox game (you can watch that video here), wrote a book (my first book “Get Off Your ‘But’” was published earlier this year), scuba-dived, went back– packing through Egypt with my closest friends, went on a date with Natalie Portman (ok, that hasn’t happened yet but it will) and this October I have the chance to speak at an event with the Dalai Lama!

Want to know the best part?

I am having the time of my life I know it’s no where near over yet!

Now, what I want YOU to do is pull out a piece of paper and a pen and create your own bucket list of all the things you’ve ever wanted to experience or have in your life. You know you’re on the right track when what you write down makes your heart pound with excitement and a little bit of fear.

You don’t have to wait until you are in the hospital at 3:00am to do this. Do it right now. Start doing things that make you feel alive, that draw you towards your future.

Show your bucket list to as many people as possible. You never know what opportunities will arise.

Please share your bucket list with me in the comments section below.

I would love to hear from you.

Sean

    Hi Sean,

I watched yoour first video clip on this website and it was an aha moment for me.
Last summer I had a dream where I saw a very large tree uprooted and I was very suprised in the dream. I thought this poor tree is going to die unless I water the roots. I really didn’t know the meaning of the dream until now. Yes, my life is changing and I am getting rid of the fear and victim mentality. It is a slow process, I keep fallling back into old habitual ways of thinking and doing. How can I change and plant my tree again so that it can continue to grow? Thanks for any input. Carolyn

    Hello Sean,

My name is Madison James, and I’m only thirteen years old. I’ve started my own list.

It includes some very simple childish goals, and some very complicated, unimaginable goals.
    All because of you.(:
Here’s some of my list, but it’s growing more and more every single day.
Please, let me know what you think.

    - going horseback riding
    – learning to do a cartwheel
    – putting atleast one-hundred dollars into my savings
    – losing ten-pounds
    – having a paint fight
    – going to Madison Square Garden
    – getting a necklace with my name on it
    – swim with dolphins
    – get a portrait done of myself
    – give a rose to a stranger
    – plant a tree
    – write a letter as a biggest fan
    – shower in a waterfall
    – sleep under the stars
    – run a marathon for breast cancer awarness
    – water ski
    – go zorbing
    – adopt a pet from a shelter
    – hide all clocks for one day
    – kiss a stranger
    – give a stranger $50
    – make a message in a bottle
    – ride in a hotair balloon
    – milk a cow
    – leave seventeen random notes around the world.
    – donate my hair to locks-of-love ten times.

It grows more and more every-single-day.
and along with help from my friends and family,
I’m accomplishing way more than I ever though I could.

    - Inspirated Madison.<3

    Dear Sean,
Today I’m meeting you for the first time here, and I know, I will be looking up this blog frequently for inspiration and to be empower by your wisdom.
It is not coincidental that I got an e-mail invitation about your presentation today. Yo see, today I also found out that my brother has a little baby boy with a condition similar to yours. He lives in my home country so I don’t get to see him or his family. I have been very sad all day, but now I’m beginning to understand the message; he will be great just like you, he is going to make a difference in this world and is my bucket wish to be around to see it.
Wishing you total success with your show and your work.
    Kind Regards.

    Hello Sean– You cutie patutie!

Someone once told me: “oh my goodness, you live your life like a bucket list!”

So true! Everyday when I wake up I dash out of bed and “make a decision” as to what I want to do today.

Everything is a choice. Even where you are right now, is a choice. For example, I want to purchase a big beautiful home. As oppose to telling myself why I can’t (excuses, excuses, excuses) I go out and find the house that I want to purchase. I get all the information on it so that I know exactly what I want.

Then, I find out about financing: how much does it cost, how much will my payments be, etc. I do NOT ask, “do I qualify?” because that is a yes or no answer. Instead, I ask, “what do I have to do to qualify?” Then I know what I have to do to get it.

Next: challenge number one– no down payment. How much of a down payment do you need (not if you have it or not, but how much do you need)? Now you have a number to work towards.

Next: make a long list of all of the ways that you can come up with that money, at least 100 new ideas. DO NOT come up with any excuses. Just look at Sean: does he find excuses or come up with solutions?

    And so forth.

The following is my bucket list which is my reality:

    I am rich
    I love my job
I have the greatest child on earth!
    I have a wonderful family
My friends are the best in this world: smart, sexy and I love them!
I’m beautiful and sexy (okay, with help of a little hair color and the occasional botox)
    I drive a Maserati Quattroporte :)
I own several big, beautiful homes
    I am happy! Woohoo!
…and the list goes on and on

Make the CHOICE and find ways to go for it.

If Sean isn’t an example of “no excuses” then I don’t know what is.

Best wishes for you all and have fun today working towards your goals!

    Woohoo!

    Evelina

    G’day Sean,
    You Truly are The Inspiration.
I also have been down deep, in the seemingly bottomless Black Hole, many times during my life, however now I feel I am almost at the top of my mountain, where the Sun is glowing everyday.

Live a Long life enjoying total Financial Freedom.

Assist as many people as possible to heal themselves, and have a great life.

Live in a Beautiful Home filled with total and complete Love, with My Partner.

Sean, I had written an article on my website about The Bucket List, with similar themes. But this is just incredible!

I resonate with your thoughts, by choosing to live every day with love, and joy. If today was my last day on earth, I would have absolutely no regrets!

    Thanks!

    HI Sean
happy Sunday. There is also a great movie called bucket list that illustrates your point beautifully. I think you’ll love it! Congratulations on living your Dalai Lama dream. Oh my, that is sooooooooooooooo freaking cooooooool.
How funny I think I don’t want to share my list because people may just laugh if I don’t make it happen or I may be disappointed if I don’t get there, so I rather stay away from it. I love what you said in “get off your But” about avoiding disapointment by not even trying. very true!
PS: I love getting off my But. And I love my butt. :-P
    And here is
    Evelyne ‘s bucket list:
–I want to share my love and gift on stage through songs, speeches, comedy and events
    – I want to share my songs with the world
–I want to work and connect and ideally collaborate with the most inspiring individuals of this planet such as
Dr. Wayne Dyer, Richard Bandler, Dr. Robert Holden, Sean Stephenson, Steve Chandler, Marianne Williamson, Oprah, Richard Branson, Madonna, Michael Neill, Lady Gaga
I would love people to buy my music and I would love to produce it with the finest producers– people who have great skill, connections and whom I click with. Who work from love and passion and yet know to make it accessible.
I would love to travel the world with Thomas and work with people all around on living your dreams and creating from love
I want a family with Thomas and speak while pregnant. I would love to be the voice for women in this world, to speak for being feminine and not holding back on success and how to be kind to yourself.
    I want to write a best-selling book (or 10)
I want my music to sell
I want to actually get to know Madonna
I want to be known as someone who transforms peoples lives through her beingness someone who is using all her talents for the greater good.
I want to create my dream home: a colourful villa with slides from top to bottom, where you slide from floor to floor and land in cushions, soft balls, or even the pool in the morning!
I would love to create a centre for joy and transformation– oh wow-where people come and stay for a week and do personal development. In nature, with lots of adult and children’s PLAY-ground. A centre of creativity with a beautiful theatre and facilities that inspire a new way to create joy and life. I’d have comedians performing and musicians singing and people working on themselves. We’d have speakers and entrepreneurs and workshops. And scholarships so that this is something people can do who haven’t made so much money yet but are committed to the greater good of the world.
I want a happy family life and a way that allows me to live my dreams whilst being a mum.
I want to go to Laos for a month
I want to spend time in the world’s greatest resorts
I want to sing and speak around the world
I want to play music with great musicians
I want to create magic in the recording studio
I want to give concerts with an amazing band and orchestra
I want to be fully loved for who I am
    I want to write music
I want to wear beautiful and comfortable dresses
I want to have a collection of amazing shoes that look great and feel good!!
I want to have amazing friends with whom to share my life
I want to create inspired organizations
I want to bring buckets of love and colour this world with my energy
I want to feel amazing in my body throughout my life
I want to create a passionate life long relationship with my partner and increase sexual fulfilment together.

That’s super Evelyn. Did you know there is a David Austin New English rose of that name, which is charismatically gorgeous. I love your energy. Speaking personally, The most-most wish in my life, is to become Self Realised; and should that ever be included on your list, even being a modest way to achieving that would enable quite a number of the things you have on your list, to be effortlessly realised (at least in terms of the joy you’d feel in achieving them). I now regard *everything* as a gift (even the stroke I had). Good Luck Evelyn.

Hi Sean, thank God for you, and for your message, I just wanted to share my thoughts with you and see what you think, if you have the time.

From one thinker, one do-er to another.

Thank you Sean, you are a very special person and who touch’s everyone you encounter. Your words of encouragement and hope will change many lives including mine.…..

My bucket list has some selfish items on it which I feel embarassed about, but here they are:
    – Hike the Grand Canyon
    – Be a Princess
    – Visit Pyramids in Egypt
    – Find out what my gift is
    – Stay at monastary in Tibet
    – Meeting my messenger
    – Find my life partner
    – Find peace & purpose in my life
    – Win the lottery — so I can fulfill the above

    • Sean Stephenson
      October 12, 2009 | 9:23 PM

      1. NEVER be embarrassed about your goals.
      2. Instead of winning the lottery think of a cool way to get paid to live your purpose.
      3. I might see you in the Pyramids some day. :)

      Peace,
      Sean

    What a great idea, Sean.

I couldn’t come up with much, but there is still something:

    1) Open up my heart and really hear others.

    2) Live in the now, be present and serve for creating a peaceful world.

    3) Achieve perfect eye sight.

    4) Develop the ability to see the energetic body and be a channel for healing it.

    5) Earn enough to live independently, comfortably and well.

    6) Make my home bussiness a success.

    7) Write a book (or books) that bring higher understanding, joy and clarity to the readers.

I call this my magic dream box — it’s a beautiful wooden box and when i get the urge I fill up notes with wishes and dreams. Sometimes I’ll just cut out something from a magazine or ad that makes me smile or is something I’d like.

Some of my wishes are things and some are feelings or events that I want to experience more of — it’s amazing how law of attraction will bring forth what we want if we just take the time to figure out what it is that we do want.

One wish, and one wish only .

To get up every morning and look forward to my day. Finding that place, that place that would bring me to loving every minute of my day. My mind know’s I must look inside myself to find this place … but somehow my ego wins everytime.

Thanks for this opportunity to put it into words!

I have a very short list. I’ll get to that in a moment.

With your permission, I would like to use several quotes from your book and/or this bucket list video in my free throw book which is still in 1st draft form.

The quotes would appear in two chapters; The Mental Plane and in Perfect Practice. I’ll email you a copy for your preview before inserting your quotes.

MY SHORT LIST (There is no long list, this is it.)

    1) Publish my book, The Guide To Free Throw Mastery — Beyond Expectation.

    2) Set up my Free Throw Mastery site.

    3) Finish my children’s book. The Angel Poogala Optiva and publish that.

    4) Finish my autobiology for the class of 65′ web site.

    5) Adopt a kitty or two and maybe a dog later.

    6) Acquire or build, in the USA, a free play Internet poker site in preparation for US legalization to help bail out our governmental financial crisis.

    7) Become a philantropist. (source of income: Internet domains)

It’s not very long, but most things on it will be big accomplishments if I get to do them.

    1. Own and live in a big house on 100+ acres. Large guest house out back. Gotta have spa tubs.-And do it before JP is 7yo.

    2. Meet Stevie Nicks

    3. Create art that will be residual income for a long time.

    4. Learn how to make a great cheese sauce.

    5. Earn over $100K per year.

    6. Travel, at least once, to : Ireland, Britain, Egypt, Italy, Germany, Japan, Israel, Hawai’i

    7. Visit: D.C./White House, Statue of Liberty, Mt. Rushmore

    8. See a live shuttle launch.

    9. Own a country style lake house.

    10. Be able to leave an inheritance for my kids and grands.

    11. Record an album. Even better, do it w/ Stevie Nicks..

    12. Write books.

    13. Learn how to ride a motorcycle

    14. Become a proficient shooter.

I don’t know how many I’ll get to, since I’ve been stuck in a rut for over a decade. But I’ll put that on my ‘Pain’ post on the other page.
