Creating Your Dream Team

One of the single biggest secrets to my success is…

The quality of my teammates.

When I look at my life, I am blessed with an amazing team who really has been the foundation for all of my success.

They often say that you are the sum total of the five people you spend the most time with. So take a look around at your peer group, are you spending time with those who challenge you to be your best? Or are you passively letting others shape you into who they want you to be?

“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” — Mark Twain

You need to spend some time in your life developing your dream team. I can guarantee that once you do, you will see massive leaps in your health, happiness and finances. So don’t wait, start today.

My parting thought is this…

You are an employee of the company you keep. ;)

    Yo Sean, thanks for sharing!

I’ve been thinking and applying this pretty well for the last 6 years. I’ve yet to meet someone though pretty successful in ALL areas of life. Some financially successful people I know complain a lot and are unhappy. Some that are successful in relationships are terrible in health. Some successful in health but has poor beliefs about relationships…

Eben Pagan talks about getting them at their best. I find that everything is connected though and their limiting beliefs about another subject comes up. What do you do about this?

Also, since you deal with a lot of people with poor self-concepts and other “problems” how do you cleanse or prevent yourself from getting their issues/beliefs?

    Hi Sean,
you put it so well! It took me years to work this out.
It is true and some very negative people recently left my life and I felt sad about that. Its just that Im not in the same vibe as them any more.
    thanks again,
just what I needed to hear today.

Don’t walk away from negative people, RUN! :) You might
miss their companionship but I’m guessing you don’t have
to miss their support, cause it probably wasn’t there to begin
with. I’m glad this video spoke to you. :)

Sean, I have heard a lot about surrounding yourself with friends, and and finding the right people.

However, I have never heard about the whole ‘team’ concept, and picking teammates that specialize in a single area of life. Your ideas are really unique, and helpful in all of our lives. I really enjoy reading your blog, and watching your videos, Sean.

Thanks a bunch, for your contributions!
    Josh Lipovetsky.

    Fantastic start to the day!

As you shared I thought about how blessed I have been to have access to a team that is so dynamic and resourceful (always bringing innovative ideas and unique opportunities), loving and forgiving (always accepting me as I am and as I am not), and kind and generous (always thinking of others and paying it forward). In my best and worst times, they are the light in my world…and you top the list brother.

Keep spreading the truth and the light!

What a lovely yet simple message. My Dad has always said “Show me your company and I will show you what you are”! It is sooo true but you have put it sooo much more holistically. Bless :-)

The power of association is such a profound concept that separates the high achievers from those who simply achieve. Although cliché, we become who we associate with most often and birds of feather flock together, are extremely real concepts and philosophies. Pretend like your life is an organization and your goal is to grow year after year. Take an honest inventory of your team members (friends, family, colleagues, etc.) and determine if this is the team that is going to take YOU INC. to the next level OR will it have you remaining stagnant. Because the key lesson that all of us need to learn is that there is no such thing as stagnation in life; we are either moving in the direction of our dreams or we are not! It is that simple and one of the weights that will prevent you from the next echelon in your existence are the people who you associate with most often. So take the time to honestly assess the situation and begin structuring your life for the extraordinary because there is already a surplus of ordinary people in this world…

As always, EXCELLENT message Steve and thank you for opening our eyes…

    Hi Sean,

You are a wonderful person with a true gift and the type of person that is an inspiration with everything you have accomplished and your heart felt compassion shines though.

You asked to share what each of us think is our biggest obstacle in our life that is stopping us from living our dream and I know the depression is the one obstacle I can’t overcome anymore which is stopping me from going after all the dreams I once had.

I was living my dream and felt like I was on top of the world. It had nothing to do with money or possessions, those things might make a person happy for a while but it will wear off eventually.

I once had enough money to keep a roof over my head, to help others when needed, the job of my dreams, a loving family and a circle of friends that always made me laugh but also gave me a shoulder to lean on when needed and I did the same for them.

I was struck down with depression in 1999 and had to quit the job of my dreams as working seemed too over-whelming even though it was something I loved so much. I lost my friends because I stopped going outside or even answering the phone and basically feel that the depression robbed me of my life and I don’t know how to get it back.

Just to wake up feeling like it will be a good day, a productive day, a day filled with joy instead of tears…that would be a dream come true.

I can no longer get any medical attention for the depression due to major cut backs that hit our mental health care system the most so if you don’t have money to see a private therapist, you are out of luck.

I have lost interest in every aspect of my life at this point. I no longer have the desire to do the things that once brought me so much happiness, I don’t leave the house, don’t answer the phone…I just have no interest in anything anymore.

If you knew the type of person I once was, you wouldn’t believe how different I’ve become. I was always out-going, laughed and joked around all the time, enjoyed meeting new and interesting people and loved working in the artistic field.

I wouldn’t wish something this horrible on my worse enemy. To wake up and just cry for no apparent reason, to spend all my days lying in bed either watching t.v. or going on the internet is the only thing my life consists of now. This is what I’ve made of my life since the depression hit and am too tired to keep fighting for what I once had in life.

My desire, my biggest dream come true would definitely be to wake up one day and feel alive again with no depression and to be able to work, to help others…that would truly be a real blessing for me.

I could go on and on about all the things I’ve lost because of the depression, all the things I’ve given up on due to lack of interest in anything, feeling the darkest hole inside me that I no longer have the stength to try to fill.

I don’t live, I exist. I know there are so many people who feel the same way I do with their mental illnesses that they have tried so hard to overcome.

If you have any words of wisdom to share with me and so many others like myself, you would be changing so many lives and would truly be a blessing. To just feel some hope again would be so amazing.

So, that’s my biggest obstacle that I have given up trying to overcome. Although there are a few other pretty major obstacles in my life as well, if I could only get back that inner peace and happiness I once had and that inner strength I am desperately in need of, I know I could overcome any other obstacles and I would bet my life on there being so many others suffering in the same way I am but have no help available anymore.

I hope to one day see a video from you sharing your thoughts about mental illness and if you have any suggestions at all, they would certainly be appreciated. In the mean time, I will continue watching your videos that are an inspiration in so many ways even though they don’t address the depression. You are a true gift to millions of people and maybe it’s people like you that keep people like myself going.

    Sincerely,

    Melanie

Sean, you are so right that we need to create a support system around us that contains people who want the best for us and vice versa. This does not have to be our closest family or even our oldest friends. As we grow as people it is sometimes necessary to find a new support group who challenges and motivates us and encourages us to pursue new goals.

    Hi Sean,
This idea of team achievement and the players we compliment is so true — to the proof and solution of purpose; that we need our built in forgetters to be reminded, by players in the game of life…just as you do, remind us. Sean the reminder that human resources are more precious than any other commodity is of the highest set of values.
    Thank You…

Thank you Sean this message is really beautiful. Although we haven’t met in person, when I take the time to come to your blog & listen to your very personal messages, I feel connected to you. Your presence is so great that your message transmits, in the heart-to-heart wormhole kind of way. So thank you for being part of MY team, because I trust your wisdom and am grateful for being able to freely partake in it.

I can’t wait to assemble my team, real life and internet teachers alike (and crossover), because it puts the ULTIMATE IMPETUS on personal growth. I grow because I care about the WE. Only when I care about the WE and forget the ME do I get off my B-U-T-T!
